I'm planning ahead, and wondered if anybody has an opinion on a good home charger. I am currently supplied by Octopus, and if it makes any difference, I have a smart meter. Can't decide whether the charger should be inside or outside the garage, but I am planning on charging the car off peak? You are welcome to make me aware of similar or better EV charging tarriffs.

My brother's had his charger installed in the garage (into which he can actually park the car unlike a lot of garages) but his garage door - like mine - has a large rubber seal on the bottom, so the tethered cable can come out under the door with the connector lodged on a wall mount adjacent to the door. He can thus charge the car inside or outside the garage. He has a Tesla and the car is charged via the app. There's no need to access the charger. I don't know what it is but he's on Octopus too. He used to be on Octopus Agile which was fun - occasionally getting electricity at a negative rate!

I'm toying with just using a granny charger with mine since I am retired and don't do much mileage. Undecided whether it's cost effective to install a c.£1k charger in that context. It's unlikely to be cost effective to have an overnight tariff.

I’ve just had installed a Wallbox Pulsar Max charger after undertaking extensive research. One of the main requirements for me was for the charger to be compact given I have limited space in terms of where the charger is situated.

Thank you for your replies.
gloucester: I have thought of doing similar so I can charge inside the garage, but also outside. I'm not a fan of lengths of cluttered cable, so I would have to have a think about cable management. I read that a granny charger would take 12 hours to charge from empty. And if you consider that charging with a wall charger would mean smart charging, and you could pretty much charge between 20 - 90 percent within 12pm to 5am at substantially reduced prices? A friend pays 27p per KwH, and I believe off peak is between 7.5 and 9p per KwH. Surely this would make a charger viable.
Percism: The Walbox looks like a pretty good charger. If it's tethered, is there anywhere you can hang the cable from it? And I see a price online at about £700. Does that include fitting?

I bought a Wallbox bracket (£36!) which the cable wraps around- see pic. I arranged installation separately having bought off Amazon- expect the £700 doesn’t include installation.

P.S. Having thought about it I bought the more expensive 7m (rather than 5m) cable version and installation cost c. £250- on that basis c.£700 all in may be possible as see units can be purchased for c. £500 online.

I have the Andersen home charger which hides all the cables. Best Tariff I have seen is Intelligent Octopus but you can only get this if you have compatible car or charger. Volvo is not yet compatible so you would need to get a compatible charger to get this tariff. I’m pretty sure Ohme is compatible but don’t know what else is.
