Hi everyone,
may you please advise which of the two option is the best in your opinion?
Plus is +3200 eur than the Core version.
I saw the differences, summarizing more or less:
- audio system
- charge usb ports and wireless charge
- electric tailgate (is there a sensor for kick activating?)
- a/c system (cannot understand if the only difference is the dual-zone)
- lighting system
- digital key plus system (what does that mean?)
- park assistant not only rear but also in the front
- driver assistance
What would you say? I like the ambient lights and the better audio system, but do they worth the price?
Thanks!
EX30, Core vs Plus
- There's no kick sensor, there's a small button you click on the black bar on the rear.
-The difference in AC in the Core vs Plus/Ultra is that the Plus/Ultra has a heatpump, which allows for more energy efficient cooling/heating.
- Digital key plus adds UWB (ultra wideband) wireless technology. In practice that allows you to enter the car and just drive (your key is automatically detected) as well as using a compatible phone as a car key as well (newer iphones and select Android phones) but this feature isn't ready yet. Without the feature you need to present your key at the door to open it and in the left phone slot to drive it.
I think the most important, functional, feature to consider is the heatpump, personally I would never get an EV without it because it can help better manage battery temperature for faster charging and increased range, granted I'm from Scandinavia so we can only have the ideal battery temperatures a few months every year, and the car is not gonna be parked in a garage either.
If you feel like the kind of driving you will be doing doesn't regularly go sub-20 degrees outside then I could definitely see skipping getting the Plus with heatpump, and then, in my opinion it's all just a matter of what you prefer in terms of comfort.

Welcome thla to this forum - I hope you don't mind me correcting part of what you wrote.
superpax - to respond to your queries:
Firstly the Core version is not yet on sale in the UK, so our cheapest option is the Plus with standard battery.
Secondly, in the UK, all paint options and trims are free of charge - so my car with optional Moss Yellow paint and optional Pine interior is costing the same base price as the standard Vapour Grey/Indigo - in other countries both paint and Rooms are cost extras.
Since we don't have the Core model in the UK, I've translated the German catalogue so that I can list out the differences:
In the UK the Plus comes on 18" wheels with the standard range battery and 19" wheels with the extended range battery.
thla - it's only the extended range battery that gets the heat pump - the standard Plus doesn't have it.
It's only the addition of the two rear USB-C ports in the Plus. The Core still has the two in the front, but not the flaps over the lower tray behind them.
The Indigo trim is the only option available on the Core - the other three Rooms all come with front seat back pockets.
There have been few reports of the sound system but videos which feature it say its great!
Although the German catalogue mentions "rear automatic brake intervention" I thought that was an Ultra only feature - must check it out.
I think the Core still has ambience lighting but only on the dashboard (not the doors) and only white?
The electric tailgate is great! You can open it from the central panel as well as externally. No one's yet seen how the manual tailgate is operated - the button may still release the lock but there's nothing there to pull up on. There's also noting on the hatch to pull it closed.
Automatic mirror dimming should be good.
The only differences with the climate control are dual zone and improved filtration.
Pilot assistance should be great too!
The ambient lighting in the external mirrors is "puddle lighting" onto the ground outside.
From my point of view, even if the Core version had been available in the UK, I'd still have straightaway gone for the Plus to get:
Moss Yellow, Pine interior, improved sound, electric tailgate, Pilot Assist, etc. - well worth it!

Not at all, the information I was presented listed it as only the core model lacking the heatpump, and it's not really readily apparent on their website that it's only on the extended range model that has a heatpump.gloucester wrote: ↑Sat Nov 25, 2023 6:59 pm Welcome thla to this forum - I hope you don't mind me correcting part of what you wrote.

But in any case good to know
Hi everyone and thanks for your replies.
I live in Italy and here Volvo sells both version, Core or Plus. As said the second one is +3200 eur.
I did not find any specific technical data in the Volvo website about the heatpump in the Plus version. Some websites say that the only one that does not have it is the "basic" Core version, other websites say it's just on Extended Range versions, cannot understand who's right.
Where I live, medium temperatures are the followings: November: 11°, December: 8°, January: 7°, February: 9°, March: 14°, April: 17°, all other months more than 20°. Could this be a problem? Consider that the car will be mostly parked in my garage and not outside, but of course I would also like to travel with my new car.
About the two versions, both have 18" wheels, as in the UK. I wonder whether the vehicle registration document still shows the rim approval for 19" and 20" as for the Ultras versions if the owner should upgrade in the future.
As written by "gloucester", the Core version has a basic lighting system of white colour and just in the front dashboard.
It's just funny that they write "glossy black roof" in the Plus version, considering I would buy the car in black colour they don't give other colours to choose for the roof.
I think it is worth to pay extra +3200€ for: premium audio system (I didn't find an only reviews video, but I expect so much from Harman Kardon), interior lighting themes, automatic tailgate, parking assistance also in the front (I woudn't need it neither in the back, but ok).
What do you think? Thanks all for sharing my doubts and thoughts.

The heat pump is confirmed as only coming with the larger battery so the Core and Plus standard range don't have one.
You'll be able to use 19" and 20" wheels in the UK - although they would be insurance-notifiable. Regulations in other countries may vary.
People in hot sunny climates are complaining that all Plus and Ultra models come with a black roof (with or without the sunroof). I'm fine with it in the UK and it's a lovely paint full of little coloured sparkles.
