Hi All,
My EX30 has apparently reached UK shores (Twin Motor). I expect delivery to me before the end of the month. Happy to meet everyone, hope to contribute actively (if infrequently) but having been an EV owner and driver across many marques (via On.to) over the past 4 years I am used to a few niggles, issues and overcoming things as well as waiting for software updates and other bits and bobs so I hope I can provide an objective view.
One thing I may have missed - is there an 'EX30 Hacks' or EX30 best practise/tips and tricks sticky thread that gets updates as new updates come out? I am after a list of common things every driver should consider (for instance I see hacks around the charge limit issue but I am not 100% if that has now gone away in the latest release, I see lots of people turning off audio alarms on speed sign warnings, is there a golden must have short cut for the configurable button? etc - would be good if there is a list somewhere that someone can point me at! Looking forward to getting and living with the car good or bad, I am locked in now!

Welcome to this forum.
I don't think there's a specific list as you describe but we do have update topics.

Thanks for the welcome!
I now have the car, have put a few hundred miles on it and first thoughts......
It’s a nice little motor, ridiculously fast in performance mode (it’s the dual motor). I didn’t realise the paint was pearlescent which is nice and I think it is a nice looking motor (clean). I think it will get dirty quickly.
Some odd things with the software. Not deal breakers but annoying. I like to be able to get a wing mirror to drop on reverse to see the wheels, which is not currently an option. Not a deal breaker but I just miss it. I do usually look out the back to reverse as I am Analogue person - may have to use the cameras more and I may get used to it. (My other car is an old LR Defender so you HAVE to drive that on the mirrors, and all your other cars for the last 10 years have had a dropping minor so I guess I am just used to it. It's probably just as easy to re-programe me as the car ) .
The Google auto full OS it runs has a few issues for me, I am sure I could have dug and found out about them and its fine, but just things I had not noticed (again I am sure they will get updated). You cannot use a Google apps email address with it (which is annoying) and I love Waze and I know that wl be fixed but it's still annoying. My missus has the proximity key so I have a card until the phone as a key update comes. Again minor annoyance in that the card unlock only works on the driver’s door - which is the opposite side to the charge port so it means there is a bit of to and fro if all I want to do is charge. The car also fails to recognise the card on occasion but once phone as a key arrives hopefully it won’t matter.
The pilot assist seems incapable of recognising the speed limit on the M4 motorway (at least for me) that means the cruise control is useless but again that’s after only a couple of long (100 mile) trips on different roads, hopefully its user error. It also seems not to use the current speed as the place to start to set the cruise speed, so if you decide to turn it on for a 50 mph limit and you were at 70 before you cannot adjust the speed down to 50 until it’s activated - which is quite hairy. More learning to do I suspect. Again probably user error and I will take the tome to go through the manual I detail, I am only posting first impressions
I got a FITCAMX for it, and that seems nicely made and a really great idea. Quick (if nerve racking on a brand new car) easy fit.
I have yet to do a proper comparison of performance mode battery drain vs standard.
Google standard maps app seems pretty spot on with the range estimations but again we have only done a few hundred miles so it probably hasn’t worked out driving styles and averages yet.
Rear seats are higher up than the id.3 we had before and the kids like that - but the rear space isn’t as much as I remember and I can feel the kids feet tapping the bottom of my seat - think we will need something bigger next time. I didn’t think the lack of a fold down table/cup holder/through loader on the rear would matter when we test drive it, but the kids miss it so already have got some of those covers with loads of pockets that attach to the back of the front seats so put things in, plus it protects the seats
otherwise it all feels well built and quite premium compared to the other things we tested and I hope the new software updates will add to it. Will update anything of note - good or bad.

It does not automatically adjust to speed limit signs. We need to instruct the car to follow the new limit. On the cruise control, you are probably resuming from the set speed using the + button. What I do when the limit is on at 70 (either active or on standby) and I want to cruise at 50 I just slow down to 50 and flick the lever downward once more, it is set at 50 and activated. Resuming at 70 and then reducing to 50 is, you are right, not ideal.no_ngins wrote: ↑Tue Jul 30, 2024 3:55 pm

As alphahere has said, there isn't a setting whereby the cruise control locks onto the relevant road speed limit.no_ngins wrote: ↑Tue Jul 30, 2024 3:55 pm ...

I was expecting it, but couldn't find it on my test drive and quizzed the salesman, who also thought the car should have it but didn't know how to set it.
I wouldn't however suggest that that renders cruise control "useless"!
HOWEVER............................
The detection/display of speed limits is SO bad at recognising the correct actual speed limit that it's pointless having such a mode for the cruise control until the inconsistencies are corrected. My ten-year old Qashqai was much better at detecting the right speed compared to my EX30.
In the UK I've seen values of 5mph, 45mph, and 80mph displayed. It's wrong very often not just occasionally.
You are however using it incorrectly. It appears you're using the "+" button to turn it on whereas you should be using the right-hand stalk. The "+" button is only meant for "Resume". Using the stalk sets it at the current speed.

I have had a lengthy email discussion with the Volvo helpline on the subject of ACC not adjusting to speed limits.
This feature is mentioned in the 2024 EX30 manual (but not in the 2025 EX30 manual), but does not exist in the settings.
The Volvo helpline has now admitted that it does not exist yet, but say thst it should become available in a later update.
We shall see.

Thanks for all the replies by the way and for the help on using it properly. One day I will also rtfm also. Really appreciate it and I am enjoying the car. Performance mode is loopy! Feels like there is a bit more to get used to here. I have had a few EVs from different eras including BMW i3, Ioniq 5, VW ID.3, iPace, Audi etron, Renault Megane and Zoe. For some reason (aside from flappy paddle regen on the Audi) the Volvo seems to be a bit less intuitive, but that maybe just because it’s a newer generation of car - still loving it and as mentioned I just need to read the manual properly!
