Hello folks, I can ignore all software bugs and issues because of driving experience is so pleasant.
Also I can accept that Volvo doesn’t bring to Brazil a 22 kW OBC, even in the Ultra trim.
But I feel cheated when the vehicle specs state that OBC is compatible with AC 3-phase up to 11 kW. But upon a condition that is not stated anywhere: 3-phase 380V only. Not compatible with 3-phase 220V.
Why?? What’s the reason for that?
The OBC supports 3-phase and 32A. I can’t understand.
Residential electricity in Brazil is 127V L-N, 220V L-L.
To let this situation more embarrassing, Volvo dealer sold to me a 3-phase charger.
You know what? Nobody in Volvo, authorized service or customer support knew about it. I had to find this conclusion by myself.
I have tested 2 different models and manufacturers of chargers in 2 different locations/installations. I did this to make sure of what was going wrong.
Since Volvo didn’t have any qualified technician to deal with my case, they forward it to the charger partner which is WEG in Brazil. They explained that other EV models also have the same characteristic, such as BYD Dolphin and GMW Ora 03. Thus, the recommended solutions were: #1 - change the installation to 2-phase (max 7,4 kW); #2 - install a transformer to up the voltage to 380V (not feasible).
Important note: any alert or error message is generated. The status turns to “charging”. However the amps stays in “0”. Also sometimes you’re not able to finish the charging process. Then you have to turn off the charger to unplug.
Volvo needs urgently to invest in qualification of its dealers and customer services.
I faced a sequence of failures since the vehicle purchase to the after sales service.
OBC Not Compatible With AC 3-phase 220V
You are wrong when say that Electricty in Brazil is 127V L-N, 220V L-L. We have mixed situations here you have one reference about this : https://www.tecmundo.com.br/ciencia/141 ... rentes.htm
The case for people that live on areas with 110-127 L-N is like the ones on USA. But there are many states where 220V -LN is the standard.
Without a transformer in 110-127 LN areas you cant do 11 or 22 kW which is the standard for Europe that have 240V as standard.
All brands have incosistent information here, because many information are related to USA ou Europe and in Brazil we have a lot of differnt conditions, some places like USA and some like Europe.
Thats why is best to get information in local EV foruns (facebook, forumve.com, whatsapp, telegram etc...), and associations like abravei.org
Also EX30 that came to Brazil (I dont know how it will be in USA) are only working on 220V not 127V.
If you charge during night 7kW will be enough to get a full charge. I have in my hose a 3-phase 127/220V (SP) and have my charger using the 2-phase 7kW without problems since I got first BEV on 2020.
