I wonder why nobody told Jay about the voice controls? A fairly negative review based mostly on a dislike of the central touchscreen design which has been done ad nauseam. I think he also answered his own question regarding why Volvo didn’t make the car more sporty to drive. Polestar.

I’ve tried the voice control to turn on the fog lights, or four-wheel drive or hill decent but without success, what’s the secret to get it to work?

I agree the voice commands are a bit limited. He was grumbling about not being able to adjust the heating settings which you can do with voice. For me I use the screen for that just out of habit, not as convenient as a dedicated button but not too bad. Some things like the fog lights are too many presses away.
Interesting that he didn’t bring the heating up. Does seem to be a common problem. Another thing that does come up a lot is the performance mode button. I don’t really get this one as 4wd is always available without this being active and the thing is plenty fast enough. I think in tests performance mode reduces the 0-60 from 3.9 to 3.6 seconds. I’m just not that in much of a hurry to need to press it!

I thought If performance mode wasn’t active the front motor only engaged at full throttle, that’s what my car does anyway. I need 4WD for traction on snow or ice, nothing to do with the thing being fast, and by the time I’ve fumbled through several screens, pressed a few virtual buttons and scrolled down menus…

My wife tried to use the voice commands recently and she got so fed up with the ‘sorry, I can’t do that’ (or something similar) that she shouted ‘WHAT CAN YOU DO?’, it replied ‘I can take you to a fuel station’. At least it has a sense of humour.

My RAV4 2023 has its own internal voice commands and can do more things than the EX30 Google assistant...:(

We had an XC40 before the EX30 and it had much better voice control (maybe Volvo's own code?). It would even respond to commands like "I'm hot" and dutifully turn down the aircon temperature - I can't imagine Google handling that.

When not in performance mode the rear motor is the primary motor. The front motor will be engaged if the traction control system detects excessive slip from either of the rear wheels. That is not dependent on accelerator pedal position. So in low traction circumstances the 4wd system will engage automatically as required. The front motor also will engage if a large amount of acceleration is requested but that’s a different matter.

I have had many unresolved faults (radio, heater, sat nav, not unlocking, car rebooting with my dog inside and setting off the previously deactivated alarm etc….was getting sick of no action by the dealer. I requested a refund for the car and requested to start a returns process based on numerous unresolved defects. Also a number of features which I consider unsafe (eg can only turn off lane keeping if the car is already in drive not from the welcome screen.

Rapid response. My car has been at the dealers this week and had (another) software update which they claim will fix this. They also replaced the rear high brake light in response to the intermittent radio dimming issues. Pick it back up tomorrow. I’ll keep you posted….

If only they included Google Home in Android Automotive...

Today in pretty decent snow I found out another rather dangerous and surprising issue. The car tends to cover the entire back with a thick layer of snow. And of course, it throws an overlay error about the rear radar. At this point, I could not care less about the radar. I fkng want to adjust my fan speed and see the navigation. Just flat-out stupid, that it can't be closed. I am on a snowy highway and I want to navigate and see the map
